dandelion marketing recently launched a completely re-designed website for Harbert Realty Services, Inc., a commercial real estate company in Birmingham, Alabama. Harbert needed a site with an updated look and greatly expanded functionality. Our primary objective was to develop an attractive website that provides the best user experience as businesses and other brokers search for real estate listing information on the website.
To that end, we developed a custom WordPress website that allows Harbert to manage their online commercial listings easily in-house. On the front end, this new listings management system allows site users to quickly filter listings to display only those relevant to their real estate search (by location, property type, and sale or lease). This search function is prominently placed in the header area throughout the site so that users can navigate quickly to the real estate listings at any point in their visit. On the back end, the client is able to add, edit and delete listings quickly from any web browser. Property listings represent the most important content on any real estate website, and Harbert’s new site ensures that their listings stay up-to-date and easy to find and use.
To further the usability of the site, it is built using Responsive Web Design. Responsive design provides an optimized experience regardless of the user’s screen size. Earlier this year, mobile use overtook desktop use as a percentage of Internet traffic, with mobile use hitting 55% of total Internet traffic. (see CNN’s story with more information here) With real estate websites, it is particularly important that the site perform well on mobile devices as users are often away from their desks looking for property when they need to access the listing information.
